The best Cozi alternatives for families who drive a lot

By Mike · Updated October 2026 · 7 min read

Short answer

The best Cozi alternative depends on what you're leaving for. FamilyWall is the closest like-for-like swap, with lists and a meal planner. Google's or Apple's Family calendar costs nothing extra. TimeTree is the simplest shared calendar. If your afternoons are mostly driving kids between classes, Kidbud assigns each drop-off and pickup and tells the driver when to leave.

Why do families look for a Cozi alternative?

We haven't seen a survey on why people leave Cozi, so this is our read. Some families want the ads gone. Some want features that sit behind Cozi Gold, like month view on mobile. And some have a schedule that's outgrown lists, which is mostly who this guide is for. Cozi is excellent at groceries and dinners. It wasn't built to sort out who's driving to swim at 3:00.

Picture a Tuesday. Swim at 3:00, soccer at 4:15 across town, art at 5:30. The calendar shows all three. It doesn't show that the cleats are in the other car, or that nobody has claimed the 5:15 pickup. (That second gap is the one we built Kidbud to close.)

What are the best Cozi alternatives?

Six apps cover almost every reason people leave Cozi. For more of what Cozi does, pick FamilyWall. For less, TimeTree or Google. An all-iPhone household can just stay inside Apple, a kitchen screen means Skylight, and if the driving is what keeps breaking, that one's us. We put ourselves in the table because leaving us out would be odd, but read the lists column honestly: if you're leaving Cozi and still want a meal planner, we aren't your answer. FamilyWall is. For a head-to-head on the three big organizers, see Cozi vs TimeTree vs FamilyWall.

What's the best Cozi alternative that costs nothing?

If you don't want to pay anything, use the calendar you already have. Google creates a Family calendar automatically when you set up a family group, and anyone in it can change events. Apple does the same with Family Sharing, for you and up to five others. TimeTree's core app also works without paying, with ads.

The catch with all three is that you lose Cozi's lists and meal planner. Apple's Family Sharing does create a shared Family list in the Reminders app, which covers groceries for some households. Our Google family calendar guide walks through the setup.

Which Cozi alternative is best if you drive a lot?

If most of your week is drop-offs and pickups, the feature you actually need is a named driver on each one and a reminder that fires when it's time to leave, based on traffic. In our checks of their official pages, none of the other apps here lists that. Kidbud is built around it, which is why it's narrower than Cozi in every other way.

Say the swim pickup is yours and the soccer drop-off is your partner's. You each set how much warning you want, and the settings are separate for drop-offs and pickups:

  1. "Just as I leave": one alert at the moment to go.
  2. A 20-minute heads-up, then the go alert.
  3. Your own times, if neither fits.

How much is Cozi Gold, and what do you get?

Cozi's Gold page lists it at $39, bought on the web or in the app, and doesn't say whether that's per year, so check the billing period on Cozi's site. Gold keeps everything in the core app and adds seven extras, mostly calendar comforts. None of them changes what Cozi fundamentally is, a list-first family organizer.

Cozi Gold addsWho it helps
Ad-free experienceAnyone who opens Cozi many times a day
Month view on mobileParents who plan from their phone
Calendar searchFamilies with a long event history
Up to three reminders per eventAnyone who needs a day-before and a same-day nudge
Calendar change notificationsCouples who keep missing each other's edits
Birthday trackerFamilies with lots of cousins
Shopping modeWhoever does the big grocery run

Our view: if Cozi already works and only the ads or the missing month view annoy you, Gold is the cheapest fix, cheaper than switching. If the problem is something Cozi doesn't do at all, paying for Gold won't solve it.

How do you switch away from Cozi without a messy week?

Switch in stages rather than on a Monday morning. Move recurring events first, run both apps side by side for a week or two, and only stop opening Cozi once everyone, including the other parent and any grandparents, is checking the new one. Lists can stay in Cozi for as long as you like.

  1. List every recurring class and appointment for the next month.
  2. Add them to the new app. Our app doesn't import from other calendars, so with us this is by hand.
  3. Invite your partner and anyone else who drives, and agree who owns which drop-offs and pickups.
  4. Keep Cozi for groceries if that part works. Two apps is slightly annoying, and still better than one app that does neither job well.

If you're also rethinking how you split the driving, our guide on splitting drop-offs and pickups has three patterns to try.

Is Kidbud a good Cozi alternative?

Kidbud is a good Cozi alternative only for one kind of family: the kind whose stress is kids' classes and the driving between them. It's a shared family calendar where every drop-off and pickup has one assigned parent, and that parent gets a traffic-aware Leave Now reminder. It's not a list app, and we don't pretend otherwise.

Around that core sit the pieces that make a driving plan stick: day, week and month views with a filter by child, invites for a spouse, a sitter or the grandparents, and birthday invites that count RSVPs as going, maybe and can't. Discover suggests local classes matched to each child's interests. It runs on iPhone and Android, so a mixed couple can share one family. One subscription ($59.99 a year or $12.99 a month) covers everyone you invite.

What it lacks matters more if you're coming from Cozi. No lists, chores or meal planning. No wall display. No sync with Google or Apple calendars, and no carpools between families. If two or more of those are dealbreakers, FamilyWall is the more sensible move.

Keep Cozi for groceries. Let Kidbud handle the driving.

One parent on every drop-off and pickup, and a leave alert on the right phone.

Frequently asked questions

Is Cozi Gold worth it?

It's worth it if you already use Cozi every day and the ads, the missing month view on mobile or the limit on reminders bother you. Gold adds no ads, month view on mobile, calendar search, up to three reminders per event, change notifications, a birthday tracker and shopping mode. If you barely open Cozi, Gold won't change that.

How much is Cozi Gold?

Cozi's Gold page lists it at $39, available on the web or as an in-app purchase. The page doesn't state the billing period, so check Cozi's site before you buy. Prices checked October 2026.

Is there a Cozi free alternative?

Yes. Google's Family calendar and Apple's Family calendar cost nothing extra, and TimeTree's core app can be used without paying. None of them has Cozi's meal planner, so you'd pair them with a separate list app if you need one.

What is the best Cozi family organizer alternative with lists and meals?

FamilyWall is the closest match. It has a shared calendar, shopping and to-do lists and a meal planner, plus location sharing and a family messenger. Premium is $4.99 a month or $44.99 billed annually.
